Once again, I joined Connor’s Heroes to prepare for their Art Ball! Their annual event raises money that will provide hope, guidance and support to families facing pediatric cancer. I’ve been an Artist Leader several times now, and working with their Childhood Heroes to create works of art for their auction is a project I treasure.

This year, we ended up with three pieces! The artists and I started by exploring painting and mark-making techniques on white watercolor paper, transforming each sheet into a vibrant expression of color and texture. I came home and used those unique papers to handcut butterflies, planets, and starts — each one as distinct and full of personality as the Heroes themselves. During our event, I also gathered my Heroes’ signatures and used them to create our third piece of art.

These kids are a joy and I look forward to our time together every session. They make my heart happy and full and I’m so grateful to have been asked back for a third year!
